blog update

Wednesday, January 29th, 2003

i really shouldn’t be blogging on this site anymore – im still working to get the new site up… playing with different concepts yet with the same design.

anyways, not really much to update on – I’ve been lazying off this week… I have to study for an econ test for this friday but I just can’t seem to concentrate on Econ when I’m reading it.

have been waking up at 5:45am every MWF since Friday last week… I’m really tired right now because although I tried to sleep by midnight – I got into bed and I just could not fall asleep. This made me think in complete darkness for about 3-4 hours… this is fine – thinking in darkness is the best but I’ve been thinking a lot lately and it’s just taking a lot of my time… maybe a bit too much- but I can not stop my mind from thinking, we’ve been training it to think since we were born.

anyways – I’ll stop typing and try to take a nap.

love at first sight?

Tuesday, January 28th, 2003

From Jordan’s Profile:

Too many times have people enjoyed the fruits of “true” love without actually experiencing it. Love at first sight is tricky. It almost seems like it should be a hindsight sort of deal. One must determine, by their self, and distinguish between a thump in the heart propagated by the sudden surge of blood to compensate for another part of the body. And a thump in the heart that has been caused by sudden surprise that someone has sent not a murmur, but a shockwave that floods your body with a sort of crazy excitement like no-one has ever done before. It is a rare thing not to be taken lightly, or with any sort of hap-hazard rule.

Question, Since “love at first sight” is obviously a thing based on physical aspects alone can it be considered love? Your answer would have to be based on your beliefs of love and to which things love is most attributed to. Give it a thought.

and here’s my response:

Love at first sight doesn’t necessarily have to be based all on physical attributes. First of all, I personally don’t think ‘love at first sight’ entails that at the exact time you see the person for the first time, you will think ‘I love her/him’ – it should just fill you up with a strange feeling and its driven by your personal nature and also a bit by your curiosity. At that time you have no idea what just hit you because you should/might not be able to recognize what love is; however, as time goes along and whenever you see her/him the same kind of ‘shockwave’ hits you over and over again – you will find yourself wanting to fill in the gap left inside by your curiosity: What does this strange feeling mean to you? Where does it belong? If your heart is thumping everytime this person comes into the room, then you would think they will fit right into your heart. Importantly, your curiosity should be going wild because you want to know what this person is like personally and deep down. You want their trust and you want to give them your trust. You want them to be there when you need them and you also want them to want you to be there when they need you.

Secondly and more directly related to my first sentence… you could fall in love with the way they do something. For example, you have no idea what but they have mentally/emotionally affected you. (Whether or not this is love – you can get yourself to find out later) Nevertheless, it could have simply been the way they act… how they walk, how they smile (or seldom thereof), how they carry on with their friends- from that point on… from that exact point you feel yourself being affected by their presence, you automatically start watching her/him to see how they act… you try to read their personality from afar. Now, by the end of this, you should have an unfinished mental book in your mind written in pencil where there are huge chunks of parts missing from the book because you have yet met her/him but you tried to fill in her personality through how they act. Honestly, this mental book is not entirely accurate until you take that step where you can actually take a pen and start writing in this book. You might also need to erase parts of what you wrote previously in pencil, but when this exact book is finished and finally published in your mind, you should now realize that love at first sight exists.

sunday: racquetball and superbowl

Monday, January 27th, 2003

sunday was pretty good – I just relaxed throughout the day and had some fun.

Woke up around noon and went to the SAC and played Racquetball again with Hudson, Jordan, Dave, and Drew. It was fun – I think I’m getting better… maybe not, but it’s the optimism and my enthusiasm to play that counts!

Then we went to Woodies and ate breakfast there; and went to Hudson’s room (ah, he doesn’t have a roommate so he has a room to himself!) and played Halo (or watched them play Halo cause I hate first person shooters on consoles).

Then came back – Superbowl came around… most overrated game ever. Game was totally boring and you can’t disagree with me. I thought that the Raider’s offense would have overcome the Buc’s defense but the Raider’s didn’t show much of life throughout the whole game. While I am talking about this – Gannon made a superbowl record – the QB with the most interceptions. Poor guy – he seemed to have lost the ability to perceive distances between the Buc’s secondaries and his own receivers.

The commercials were also mostly disappointing – I saw a crapload of Cadillac commercials that seemed to have followed in the tracks of the ‘shift_’ advertising campaign that Nissan used where their vehicle would do extremely unearthly things like being able to follow the sun while it was going down so that the driver could watch the sunset over and over again…

I’d say the best commercials were created by: Reebok, Coors Light, BudLight, and FedEx. Reebok had a funny one where they hired a football player to tackle any unproductive employees and you see the guy tackling people left and right. Coors Light – hit the jackpot by realizing that there will be more guys watching the Superbowl then females – so they improved one of their existing commercials about Football and Coors Light to show only the model twins that showed up during their commercial. BudLight had a couple creative ones that I can’t remember – some of them were weird but they still made me laugh. Lastly, FedEx’s commercial with the Castaway guy who brings back an old package with a satellite phone and etc was funny.

The worst commercial would be SunTrust’s… they had like an 80 year old guy singing a dumb song and dancing… I don’t know about the marketing team for SunTrust – but those who watch the Superbowl don’t go for that kind of stuff. I’m not trying to be a sexist or anything – but c’mon! SunTrust’s commercial was the exact opposite of Coors Light’s jackpot.

I’d say the most successful commercial would be … hrm, tough call – well right now, I can’t think of anything else but the FedEx commercial. Even though the whole commercial was based on a movie – it was still pretty creative and it shows that they are dedicated at doing the thing that they should be hired for.

Anyways… planning on waking up at 5:45am tomorrow again to go to the SAC. I like the idea of waking up early and doing something – not only is it enjoyable but it’s good for me! :)

g’nite and sweet dreams!

funny

If you haven’t seen this already, you gotta click here for some laughs!

It’s hilarious!

ok anyways… I just have to say a lot of things happened since last time I typed on here. I’ve actually started to work on a new design for my new site/domain which will be used strictly for my own journal keeping purposes.

I will try to work with movabletype (0)… but this really depends on how well I can integrate this rather complicated bloggin’ script.
anyways… i would update you on what happened since the last time I updated this site… but ever since the happenings of friday, i can’t seem to remember anything that happened before it.

So early early Friday morning, I was in the library doing some work until like 4am. Then I came back to my room and fall asleep around 4:30am. Around 6am, I get a phone call (my conscience seemed to have expected it as I got up suddenly and picked up the phone). It was Jordan, who was waking me up because we have decided to go to the SAC (GT Student Athletic Center) to do some early morning workouts there.
So we go there and it’s f*cking freezing since thursday because of a icy cold front that has basically covered the Eastern USA with snow (8 inches in Charlotte!). While Dave, Jordan, and I are walking to the SAC – my ears are completely numb and I couldn’t breath because the air was so cold.
Anyways, we got couple of raquetball courts and we rented the equipment to play. Then we were met by Hudson (roommate from freshman year) and he taught us the basics of the game and how we play it. I think we played just over an hour when I got tired. It was getting close to 8 so Jordan had to go to class, and Hudson had to go cause he couldn’t swim with Dave and I since he didn’t have a swimsuit.
So Dave and I went to swim in the bubble pool (it’s called bubble pool because it is covered with a huge canopy and it is heated) for about an hour. Then we came out and dried up and took the stinger back to our rooms.

After a shower to get rid of the smell of chlorine, we went to eat at Brittain at around 9:20am.
About three days ago, I told Jordan that I wanted to start doing something early in the mornings because our days would go by a lot better since we conciously know that we did something effective and non-lazy that day. So, it happens that the opportunity I have been looking for knocks on the door and I opened the door to this opportunity…
snip! :P

So after the opportunity- I went back to my room and I started to get real tired. I had to finish coding this CS lab that afternoon before my classes started, so I did that for an hour or two – the thing was so easy but I just couldn’t figure it out because I couldn’t think… but finally, it happens that the system I had SSH’d into crapped on itself and I close emacs and reopen the file and there was nothing there. Good thing emacs used the auto-saving feature – but then I still had lost the work I did for the hour or so that afternoon. So anyways – I had to restart the function from scratch but this got me going – after I’d lost like the 20 or so lines I had coded an hour prior to that moment I coded 3-lines and it worked… so yea, things just fall into the right places – I guess it’s all about never giving up and giving it everything you can (although I couldn’t really do that since I was so tired physically and mentally).

After that, I took a 30min power nap. Did me well – went to my classes that afternoon and came back to my room and woke up Jordan. After dinner, I was really tired but I seemed to have these hours or complete fatigue and other hours of energy. So I decided to stay up and go to the movies with everyone. We watched Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. It was a good movie – sorta confusing – and the plot was puzzled up a bit; very creative production.

Came back around midnight… I was planning on sleeping fairly early… but Chatty, Drew, and I ordered two large pizzas and ate that cause we were hungry. hmmm mmm- love pizza :)
After that I came back to my room and watched the first half of Catch Me if You Can cause the second half hasn’t finished downloading.

Fell asleep at like 5am in the morning… and I woke up at 10am, 11am, 12pm, and finally near 1pm – I woke up and did nothing for two hours.

hehe – so anyways, kinda boring Saturday but I’m glad its here because it gives me time to relax.
Oh! And I started and almost completed a new look to my new personal journal keeping site that will go online soon (hopefully)- the new design is experimental – uses colors that I would have never used for design purposes; but I think it turned out well.

Anyways, it’s late and I will be going raquetballing tomorrow at the SAC – so catch you late.
good night and sweet dreams :)

i was searching for some quotes online and found some good quotes:

Whatever you want to do, do it now. There are only so many tomorrows.
- Michael Landon

No pessimist ever discovered the secrets of the stars or sailed to an uncharted land or opened a new heaven to the human spirit.

- Helen Keller

If you want help, help others. If you want trust, trust others. If you want love, give it away. If you want friends, be one. If you want a great team, be a great teammate. That’s how it works.
