Tech vs. UGA

Sunday, November 30th, 2003

Eventful day yesterday… although we lost the game 34-17, it was an okay game and not like one of those 51-7 loss games. I wasn’t expecting a win but was just hoping for the upset since we’ve lost to UGA ever since my Freshmen year. I wanted some bragging rights like we did with Auburn. We will win next year in their own house in Sanford Stadium :)

Anyways, the Goldfellas (as always) was part of the atmosphere in the south side of the Bobby Dodd Stadium. It was fun like always but it was a bit cold. Wind chills were the worst part of it all – felt like around low 30s when the wind blew and the wind blew throughout the whole game. The back of the stadium always covered up the south side from sunlight so that made it even worse.

Goldfellas… we had total of 19 guys – we spelled out “WHAT’STHEGOODWORD?!” on the front and “TOHELLWITHGEORGIA!!” on our backs. At kickoff time, the ABC camera crew were there and after the reporter ‘Suwanee’ or something did his little initial game spiel, they told us they were going to pan across the Goldfellas and the fans behind us. So I know we got some good air time  This seems to be mighty important to some of the Goldfellas so ABC putting the camera on us even for a few seconds was good.

And a still photographer or something took a picture of me and Jay and asked for our names. Haha, I wonder where we will show up. He is probably one of the GTAA photographers that takes pictures for GT Athletics publications or something.

Anyways, about 70% of the Goldfellas were shivering throughout most of the game. I kept telling some of them yelling and being active warmed me up but hey still kept backing away into the crowd so they could be away from the wind. It seriously helped to jump up and down yelling/rooting for our team. Half Time made it a lot worse in the second half though because there is the 30 minutes of doing nothing but standing there while everyone else is sitting thing. Some of the guys took warm up breaks in the bathrooms (apparently it was warmer there). I’d gotta say, I saw them shivering like mad and felt bad. Everyone looked alright today… well, those ones that I saw anyways. So I am glad no one got sick (afaik).

No more football… now basketball. I am very hopeful for our basketball team this season. They are 5-0 and they won the NIT Preseason Tournament – the most important part was that Tech defeated #1 ranked UConn to get win that championship. It’ll be awesome if Tech beat UGA, UNC, and Duke ;)

Dead Week starting this week… *sigh* I’m dreading finals… it’s like the direct confirmation of the wasted semester. I know what my new year resolution is… one of them anyways.

Updates… wow

Okay so – I haven’t written in this thing for a while. I don’t exactly remember why… I usually stop typing on this site if I am down or something like that. Everything has been pretty low lately anyways until yesterday.

My parents and sister came down to give me a visit during Thanksgiving. We had lunch and then went grocery shopping in the Buford Farmer’s Market. Even though it was pouring, there were so many people there. Anyways, I haven’t seen them in a while so I was glad to see my ‘rents and sis. They left at around 5pm or something and I fell into boredom again so I watched like 5 different movies before deciding to go to bed for the night. At least, I had plenty of sleep ;)

My old cell phone didn’t work that well – I think it had something to do with the weakness of the two batteries that I had. It seemed to have trouble connecting to the network although there is a big Sprint tower thing right across the interstate. So my dad brought me another phone that actually works now… I called up sprint today to get my number on the phone changed. As always, when getting numbers for a cell phone, you want a good number right? :) Well, I was courteous to the lady on the phone and I guess she appreciated that because the phone number I got for my cell is unbelievable. I called up my dad afterwards and he wouldn’t believe me for like 5 minutes even though I was calling using the cell phone and he had caller ID. I called up Sprint again cause dad wanted me to make sure of a possible billing issue and when I told another Sprint CSR my number, she kind of chuckled. hehe, you know you got a great cell number if the cell provider’s reps on the phone think it’s a good number

Ok so no more braggin about my new number… today is the Georgia Tech vs. Georgia game. It’s going to be mighty cold for the Goldfellas but that’s what we are known for and we’ll not let the stadium down. The Goldfellas will be representing Georgia Tech South Side of the Grant Field/Bobby Dodd Stadium, in Section 134. Although, it will be a tough game for us since Georgia is heavily predicted to win, it’ll be a good game… we’ve beaten almost every other team that was supposed to beat us except FSU. (*ahem* although we lost to all the teams we were favored for)

Our Basketball team is drawing a lot of attention as well… 5-0 and the Champions of the NIT Preseason Tournament up in New York. GT defeated the #1 ranked UConn without a fuss. 5-0 winning streak is not a fluke… so don’t even argue with that :)

Sleep so I can get up early for Goldfellas stuff ;) g’night and hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving break.

You know you’re on a downward spiral part of life when…

1) You get approximately 9 hours of sleep but you wake up so many times during that period, it feels like you’re looking at your digital clock every 20-30 minutes.

2) Nice things that you do that you think was necessary or needed gets rejected because it wasn’t necessary at all nor needed by any means. Although they can thank you nicely, you still look foolish.

3) You go to sleep with a headache and wake up in the morning with the same headache.

4) You need to leave a pill of NoDoz near your bed so you can pop one in your mouth when your alarm goes off… and it didn’t wake you up. :-/

5) You can have a Scrib sheet for a test of yours, after you take the time to jot down notes and formulas, you can barely read them.

6) You don’t know whether you’re sick or just tired… all you want is to sleep all the time and be as unproductive as possible.

7) You love praying because you know God is a good listener and this is one of the only ways you get answers. He rests all the mental and emotional turmoil and makes you think of the brighter side of things.

That basically sums up my last 48 hours… heh ;) wish me luck.

Happy 26th Birthday

Tuesday, November 18th, 2003

Today is my eldest sister, Cecilia’s 26th birthday – she was the one that graduated from Dental School back when I made this post. She’s currently in University of Iowa (Home of the Hawkeyes) finishing up her studies in Pediatric Dentistry – she already has her DDS and also the license that lets you practice Dentistry in North Carolina but she decided to go further and focus on Pediatric Dentistry so she’s working on her Master’s right now.

I wish her a Happy 26th Birthday in Iowa and will see her probably when I get back home during Christmas break. Haha, interesting thing is… my sisters have their birthdays in November and January while I’m right in between their birthdays in December ;) So my 21st Birthday and Angela’s 24th Birthday is coming real soon.

Anyways, pictures relating to this post:

1) Cecilia’s Birthday Party: I have no clue when this is, Cecilia scanned these pictures couple of years back. This is her and her friends… looks like late Elementary school period for them. Look at all that yummy food on the table! :D

2) Picture of our Family (minus Buddy): This is us at Niagara Falls – not exactly sure what year but I think I was in Middle school because I don’t remember going on many vacations when I was in High School. Don’t I look so dorky with that Braves cap on? :) Oh and, we’re wearing those blue ponchos because we just got off from the “Maid of the Mist” boat which takes you to the bases of the two falls and it’s just a better experience if you get off the boat dry ;)

3-5) Graduation pictures from this past summer: Doctorate graduates… they wear cool looking robes. The people with the purple stripes on their robes are the DDS graduates… and those who are wearing the Carolina blue robes are … like Dental Hygienists or something. The last picture, it came out darker then I’d liked but none of the other cameras got any better of a photo of Cecilia getting her Diploma. Say speaking of pictures and digital cameras… I want a better one!

Did you know?

Natalie Portman & Keira Knightley

On Saturday, during dinner – I randomly said that the star actress in Pirates of the Caribbeans, Keira Knightley looked very much like Natalie Portman from the recent episodes of Star Wars. It was one of those random things I thought about when I was eating. Anyways, until I looked it up, I thought that Elizabeth Swann character was played by Natalie Portman.

Jae agreed with me that he thought the same – however, some disagreed with me.

But did you know?

Keira Knightley played Sabé in Star Wars: Episode I (IMDb Link) who was the servant and also played the double for Natalie Portman as Queen Amidala.

The similarity between her and Natalie Portman, meant that during the filming of The Phantom Menace, their own mothers could not tell them apart once covered in makeup.

For those of you who said they didn’t look anything alike – watch Pirates of the Caribbeans and Star Wars: Episode I and see the resemblance. Just thought I’d share since there were some people who told me Portman and Knightley didn’t look anything a like.

Memories.

For some reason unknown to me, today was one of the saddest days I’ve experienced at Tech when nothing really sad or negative happened. I woke up this morning feeling really tired – which is just weird so I decided to sleep a bit longer. I woke up in the afternoon with a dull tension in my head. Throughout the whole afternoon and night, this dull tension became a headache… that type of headache that I get when I do not get caffeine in my system before it’s too late.

I think it’s a migraine brought on by the lack of caffeine or something… it’s so weird. I remember having this since middle school – whenever my mom packed me juice or something for lunch, I’d come home with a bad headache that hurt when I moved my head any. However, when I drank a soda or something for lunch, no headache. I just realized this like a year or so ago – so apparently, I have an addiction to soda although I don’t remember drinking that much soda back in elementary school which is why I find it hard to believe this I can remember the cause of the headaches back in middle school.

Anyways – I just didn’t feel anything today – nor was I motivated to do anything today. Thank goodness that I didn’t have anything important due Monday (technically today)… I think a cold or flu or whatever is developing. I’m going to try to get to sleep early tonight before I get stressed this week. So an unproductive Sunday with regrets for not getting anything done.

Anyways, more pictures:

1) IB Tree – back at Myers Park High, we had a Tree devoted to the Class of 2001 IB Seniors. We called at “The Tree” – it was like our hanging out place for the IBers. We would know this tree and others would also recognize this tree as the “IB Tree” because we used to hang around the tree before classes, in between classes, during the three different lunch periods, and after school.

2) Butcher Paper v1.0 – So my freshmen section (Towers 3rd 2001-2002) created this thing called a butcher paper … we basically took a big piece of paper and taped it on the walls on our hall. Whenever we found something funny or someone said something interesting that would sound even more interesting out of the original context was put on the butcher paper.

3) Finals Week Spring 2002 – We are burning the Linear Algebra book by Dr. Carlen who is one of the infamous Calculus teachers at Tech. Carlen is an alumni of MIT and a very passionate yet crazy Calculus teacher. I’ve had the honor of having him as my professor in my very first semester – Calculus I – we spent about a month doing Deltas & Epsilon proofs… which I remember going over for like 5minutes in Methods I in my Sophomore year in High School. Surprising how little things like that from High School can haunt you years later. Thank you, Tech.

4) Spring Break 2003: Miami – A random picture of the Northern Miami beach and a random boat going across… I thought it was a cool picture. I will post more pictures from Miami later because I have a bunch of Miami pics that I have not shared yet.

5) Another Miami picture – this was taken from the Holiday Inn we were staying at in Norther Miami. The picture came out nice because I set the exposure of the came a little higher… you can see that the lights have an interesting blur and the headlights from cars on the roads being smudged because of the high exposure.
