Job Hunting.

Saturday, August 28th, 2004

So for the past week, I’ve talked to at least half a dozen different companies about finding a position.

Surprisingly, about 90% of them were actually seeking to fill in a position that I was looking for… All of them thought that I was qualified for the position.

The problem: I can’t find a position that is mostly part-time (20-30 hours per week focusing on weekends). Two different companies asked me if I would relocate and of course, I had to tell them of my requirement to stay in Atlanta for at most another two years. All the others (minus the one that wasn’t hiring), all had different scheduling in mind for me which are not going to work out.

I’m not pressed for money (yet) but I do have a credit card that’s close to the limit after paying this semester’s tuition, books, and other necessities/needs. I got two more checks coming in within the next two weeks which should be sufficient for at least another month’s time. I just hope I can find a job during that time.

If worst comes to worst, I’ll probably take that job that requires 12 hour shifts on Saturday Sunday here in Atlanta. That’ll be tough but I think the pay will be okay and some of the people I worked with at BN thought the company has a great reputation (they do).

Anyway, I think my parents and sisters are worried about my money situation. They kept asking me if I needed money and if I did, all I had to do was ask. :) My guess is if I do ask for money, they’re going to worry even more.

Anyway, I’m sure I can find a job somewhere fairly soon. The question is… will it be a good job or not

Settled in, Again.

So my plan of getting back to Tech on Friday failed without a doubt. I put about 60% of my stuff in the car and realized the rest of the 40% won’t all fit. So it was decided that I should leave on Saturday and taken down two cars with Simon. We drove down and moved in the big stuff with a dolley and shopping cart that Troy had, which only required two trips. Simon left shortly afterward because he’s already wasted all mornining driving down to Atlanta to help me and he could get back to Charlotte before the evening. Thanks to him I got all my stuff down here… else, I probably would’ve had to go back home this weekend or something to pick up the rest of my stuff.

Anyway, classes are going well so far… still haven’t been to two classes. One, because the professor wasn’t there on Monday. Two, because one of my classes is strictly lab and we don’t have labs first week of school except a lecture on Friday afternoon.

Surprisingly, some of my friends have changed a little since I last remember them from previous semesters. More distant, shall I say? It’s a different take too because I think I’m also a bit distant from them.

Well, I’m excited about what this new year will bring along. I’m not looking for anything specific but I hope it’ll be good times plus the good grades. :)

Gotta head to class!

Done and Over…

So summer is almost over – about a week left until I have to head back to tech.

I’ll be back in Atlanta on Friday afternoon depending how the week plays out. I have been procrastinating on some errands I really need to take care of before school… I haven’t done anything to prepare for the new year or anything and I need to start doing that.

I’ll be living in 6th Street East 411A with Troy, the CA on the floor. I met Troy as a 2nd year living on East campus and got to know him a lot better my third year. Last summer, I was worried about the whole roommate situation since Chatty and I wanted to room together yet he didn’t make the cutoff list… so I randomly chose a room on East Campus and was worried about what kind of roommate I was going to have. I found out that a roommate has some kind of influence over you on how productive you are… apparently, that first semester of my third year was academically the worst. The second semester, Chris (my freshmen roommate) invited me over to his 6-man apartment and I quickly applied for the room change since I just could not stand the whole two-people living-in-the-same-room scenario. That second semester was a lot better and I also had fun in the mean time.

Anyway, the building itself is the one that’s facing South of Atlanta and adjacent of the one that faces toward the center of campus. From what I’m guessing, I’ll have a pretty good view of CRC fields and the new CRC buildings.

Beside from rooming with someone I know and the location of the building, the apartment itself is only a two-man. According to Troy, these rooms are a bit larger than the average apartment rooms. And the apartment is shaped like a small apartment where you enter with the kitchen on the left and the bathroom on the right, with a tiny hall where it leads into a living area and two rooms on each side.

I guess I’ll have to write more about it when I actually get there.

Speaking of getting there, my second sister who is 3 years old than I am, graduated Pharmacy school and passed all her exams and whatnot and has been a certified pharmacist for a few weeks. She also got a job with Target Pharmacy and is making a nice chunk of money (although she complains that taxes take away a lot of it). I congratulated her on here after I got back from her graduation at UNC but now I congratulate her for her passing all her exams and getting a nice job.

That all lead to my explanation of how I’m getting there… my sister finally gave up her Ford Escort and bought herself a new Lexus IS300  I originally thought she was going to pass on getting a nice car and get a mediocre car… but she got herself a Lexus and I’m glad she did. In the end, I finally have a car I can call ‘my own’ and will be driving it down to Atlanta since I bought my $500 parking permit (crazy tech parking people!!) in the CRC parking lot.

I’ll sum up my summer a little later… I’m getting tired and need to straighten out my sleep schedule for my academic schedule. I registered for 13 hours of classes right now and the timing is good/okay but I might as well look for another class to take… any suggestions?
