Politics.

I don’t go into politics often in my blog because I just simply can’t stand it… but nearing the Presidential Election 2004 and all the media attention for this one topic, I wanted to express my views, which shouldn’t make you change your opinion since they are my opinions.

Are you influenced?
Anyway, here we go – everyone needs to formulate their own opinions about the Presidential candidates and Vice Presidential candidates. This means, unless you know you’re not going to be influenced by a third party (friends, media, and so-called political analysts), do not read the newspaper or listen to the news. This also includes that you turn the TV off promptly after the debates so you don’t hear all the “analysts” pretend like their opinions matter in the election. They don’t, not at all.

Watch the news but be aware that the media may be out to influence your decision. Don’t think the media is completely unbiased – I see them as sources of current events and not opinion-makers.

Kerry vs. Bush
What are these two candidates arguing about on the issue of Iraq? I simply don’t understand how people are debating on which candidate will make a better President of the United States in respect to the War in Iraq. They both have already said that they will succeed in Iraq. Unless the war in Iraq ends just before the election… the war will continue in Iraq no matter who is elected President as both candidates have already said that they will do whatever is necessary to win in Iraq.

So those of you who like Kerry just because you didn’t like the fact that Bush ordered the pre-emptive strike against Iraq need to think about what to say when Kerry continues the war if he’s elected. Those of you who say Bush have murdered all those American men and women fighting for a free Iraq need to understand that the war will continue even if Kerry becomes President. In a War, there are always casualties. Kerry becoming the next president doesn’t mean that all of our Soldiers in Iraq will become bullet-proof and there won’t be anymore casualties.

Neither candidate gave specifics to what they were going to do in Iraq after they became President – if anything, this is the most important part. They both might have said: “I can make it happen in Iraq – I’m not going to get into specifics of how I’m going to do that, but vote for me!”

War in Iraq
How many of you supported the War? How many of you still do? I understand that the way things are going in Iraq isn’t exactly how everyone envisioned it. The news I’ve heard on a daily basis for the past six months is certainly not what I expected when I tuned in as Shock & Awe began my sophomore year. I don’t like the fact that our people are changing their mind about the War just because it’s not exactly going as they’ve imagined.

Anyway, after watching the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates so far – just wanted to get that out.
