Certainly, the Georgia Tech Basketball team isn’t doing as well as expected. Even the GT critics who became quiet during our run last season and the beginning of this season is starting to talk smack on Tech.
I even see the frustration in our player’s faces after a loss. It seems like they just aren’t clicking well together. We don’t see to have as many assists as we used to as a team. There were talks last season about different players stepping up and at every game it was a different player. Now it seems like every player is trying to do not – not sefishly – but to try to step up and win the game for the team.
Tech’s OT win against Wake Forest showed that the skill and talent is still there but the three games we’ve lost prior to that win and the game we lost to Maryland shows that there is an inconsistency there that the Yellow Jackets aren’t comfortable with.
I must admit, among all the losing, I had a lapse as a GT fan after our 3rd loss at home against an unranked Virginia Tech team. But at the Wake Forest game, I saw that Tech players still had it in them to contest against higher ranked teams in NCAA Division I. I am still looking forward to March Madness and Georgia Tech’s representation there.
Personal Analysis
[Team play] I see sometimes players get the ball in-bound, penetrate the defense, and attempt a shot… without getting the ball passed around. Where’s the unselfish play calling that amazed so many espn commentators last season?
[Free-throws] With most of the games we have lost, if we hit those free-throws – we would’ve had more than enough points to have made up the difference in the final margin.
[Three pointer] Wow, we can’t seem to hit as many of these as before… and the problem is, we are down in points in the first half and this continues to the end of the game because our attempts to climb back with 3-pt attempts don’t fall through.
[Turnovers] We don’t have many of these… but all those missed free-throws and missed 3-pointers are basically turnovers that aren’t counted in the turnover stats. But it certainly hurts the chances of winning a game.
[BJ Elder] I think Tech has more than enough game to have beaten some of those teams we’ve lost to – not saying that Elder is not important, but we’ve lost 4 games now without Elder and it doesn’t look like the players are clicking without the missing puzzle.

I was driving home from work and saw a stray dog running around the sidewalk on Marrietta Street. The dog wasn’t just walking and wasn’t just running but it was still moving rather quickly. And no, this wasn’t a little dog you see and say “Awwwwwww” for… this dog was large; probably about 2.5 feet long and maybe 2 feet tall. I just wanted to stop the car, see if the dog was okay, and see if he followed me afterward – which is a sign that he wants something like food or even just care.
I have a thing about stray domestic animals – especially dogs. Whenever I see a stray dog, it’s stuck in my mind for a long time. Right now, I’m typing this up to just get it out because I’ve been worrying about that dog I saw earlier tonight. I wonder where that dog was during the ice storm saturday morning
Another thing: whenever I hear/read about animals being abused or neglected, I wince and get angry. It’s like the one thing that really effects my emotions without having to be directly related with me at all. A week ago, I saw this news story about this old women driving from one state to another with like 90 cats in the back of her van starving to death or already unconcious. WTF is wrong with people in this world!
And another thing: I was at Gwinnett Place Mall the other day and there was a Pet shop there and they had plastic cages stacked on top of each other in three rows and there were puppies and kittens inside. This one puppy in one of the cages was playing by himself… I think he was chasing his own tail – but imagine being stuck in a small plastic cage and all you get is a water bottle and food that taste like cardboard boxes (yes, I’ve tasted dry dog food before). It’s not like that’s their day job… to sit around in a cage to just wait. They don’t go home with anyone at the end of the day unless they are ‘bought’. Most of them just sit in the same spot and spend every single day there; an endless loop. Is it just me that think this is a sad process?
Anyway, now everyone knows my soft spot.
Excuse me if the above is incoherent… just wrote what came to my mind after being awake for about 20 hours.

So I woke up today around 6am because of tapping sound outside my window. I look through the blinds and it was Winterland – everything was covered in white. Since there was no way I could’ve made it out of campus without issues, I had to wait until the roads were more travelled on.
Around 11am, I thought the road off of the parking deck was clear enough to drive through. I get outside the apartment and was amazed at an almost-smooth layer of ice on the sidewalks that was about half an inch thick. I normally wear my old tennis shoes to work but if I had done that today, I would’ve falled on my ass at least 5 times on the way to my car. Fortunately, I wore my boots and surprisingly, I could walk at a normal pace without feeling any slippage.
Anyway, on Marietta Street. there was an inch or two of ice/snow in the middle of the lane so I thought it was safe to assume that the outer part of the lanes were safer. Well, apparently, although it looked like wet ground, it was actually thin layer of ice.
Glad the building had a parking garage, otherwise, I wouldn’t have dared to have taken my car but rather walked to the Marta station.
Hopefully, it won’t rain anymore tonight and it will get warm enough for the ice to melt into slush or something.

Went to Fry’s today to take a closer look at the laptop I’ve been scoping out for the past month: The Fujitsu Lifebook S6000 Series.
I’ve read nothing but positive reviews on the S6231 ever since I started to look for a laptop. I think I saw an older model of the same series at the first time I went to Fry’s, and it was impressive. I also looked at the Sony S260 but it’s a bit overpriced. As far as I know, I’ve already sort of made my decision on the Lifebook but wanted to check it out and inspect it more closely to see if I saw anything I didn’t like before the investment.
These Fujitsu Lifebooks aren’t just sold in any stores.. the only brick and mortar store that sold these around Atlanta was Fry’s Electronics. So I took the 20-30 minute drive up north of Atlanta to Fry’s and search for the whatever model of the S6000 series Lifebooks they had.
Aside from the fact that a loose tire fell from a trailer in front of me and I had to run over it like a big rubber band on I-85 (as far as I know, my car is okay), I got there and found that the model I saw first time around was all sold out and according to the Sales guy there, they are awaiting the newer models (I think they had the S6220 or S6210 or something like that before). So I just looked around every corner of Fry’s for about an hour before heading back (holy crap, Fry’s is huge, at least three times the size of a normal Best Buy).
As a side note, seems like a lot of out-of-state people come to Atlanta to visit Fry’s. I saw couple of people wearing Carolina sweaters and caps.
Anyway, today has been real chill holiday. Slept in, no classes, and no work.
