Super Bowl Ads XXXIX.

Tuesday, February 8th, 2005

It has become sort of a tradition on this site to review Super Bowl ads. I started in 2003 with the Raiders vs. Bucs Super Bowl and then last year when Carolina played the Patriots.

Winners: (in no particular order)
- Budweiser: Applauding the Troops – A good message but the sad part is… the troops aren’t back yet. It’s a bit early to show the troops arriving into an airport…

- Budweiser: Cedric’s Designated Driver dance: Good to see Budweiser not completely focus on one of their products and deliver a message to football fans.

- Budweiser: Friend not going to game – Two friends try to taunt another friend who didn’t make it to a game by sending him a picture using their camera phone. The friend responds back with three pictures: “Hey that’s your apartment. Hey, that’s your budlight… Hey.. that’s your girlfirned *tilting head* DAMMNNNN”.

-FedEx: Top 10 Things for Super Bowl Ad Success – This was probably just nothing but truth after the FedEx marketing team worked on getting their super bowl ad. Also sort of showed FedEx was willing to spend more… I didn’t see a UPS or DHL commercial during the Super Bowl.

-Pepsi: P.Diddy’s New Ride – This was hilarious. I’m not much of a Pepsi fan and this commercial wasn’t going to start making me drive a pepsi truck or make me drink Pepsi… but it was a hilarious commercial.

-Bubblicious: Lebron James – HAhahahahhaahahahaha. That was the last thing I expected. Made me want to go buy a stick of this new bubble gum to see what the flavor is like.

-Ameriquest: Robber – Kind of a scary situation; sucks for the guy who got beaten up because the store owners thought they were being robbed.

Losers: (in no particular order)
- Godaddy: Girl with tank top – Erm, who is your target audience? Computer/internet people. How do you advertise registering domain names with a girl wearing a defective tank top? You could have been a bit more informative without trying to be a beer commercial here.

-Frito Lay: MC Hammer – Not only did the commercial look like it was filmed in the early 80s, but did anyone notice this was promoting potato chips? I thought it was a MC Hammer attempting a comeback.

- Tobasco: Tanlines? – Everyone likes Tobasco anyway. So however much they spent on this commercial was probably more of a waste than not. The girl was hot though :)

- Heineken: Brad Pitt – I think this commercial promoted that small street store Brad went into to buy the Heineken than promote Heineken itself. Hmm, gotta find that store!

- Budweiser: Parachuting – Nobody wants beer that bad, Bud… nobody.

- Microsoft: Search – Not going to be able to beat Google with a 30 second clip of the HTML forms coming together to make your search engine, Microsoft. You guys just focus on your software.

I was working on a paper late into the night early this morning and just wanted to write this so I did:

Untitled

Would someone give me a light to hold;
I feel as if the light that kept me warm
betrayed me for the dark and cold.
Images of smileless faces all around me
with streaking tears from joyless eyes;
clouding the mind of ambition’s trust
issuing world of ideas but the time.

Now without a care in the world or me,
it seems the floor has let me go.
Falling and sliding through tunnels,
which envelope my sense of direction,
I don’t feel free at all but only fear
of timeless emptiness in the future.
I want to be free of all this unknown.

Wondering when or where I would see
the light that will make my eyes sting
after all that time without reflections.
It’ll be the most extraordinary gift
as life is appreciated for all its worth.
Putting my ambition into the works,
I suddently wake up from all of this.
Wiping away the tears staining my face,
I thank my Lord and Savior for inspiring me.

Yellow Jackets Basketball II, the follow up.

BJ Elder and Jeremis Smith are both back.

While watching the second half of the Clemson vs. GT game, I finally saw the smiles of the Tech players during the game – something which I have not seen in a long time. I am going to take it as a sign that the smiles represented the relief of the team as both Elder and Smith returned back to the court after recovering from their respective injuries.

I think the FSN analyst said it best when he said this win on the road for Tech will turn a lot of heads in the league. I believe Hewitt and his team will work hard to get back into the race to contend for the National Championship.

Yellow Jackets are opening their road toward March Madness. :)
