My sister’s wedding.
April 5th, 2006 | by john |It is with great joy that I post this as a memory-sake that my older sister Angela has finally married Simon, her boyfriend of seven years (yes, seven). They have both been planning for this wedding for many months; it even took them a few stress-induced and late nights a day or two before the wedding to finish it. It was an interesting mix of American and Korean friends and family that took the responsibility to witness the wedding. No one knew anything about weddings in either side of the family but I have to say that they pulled off a spectacular and beautiful wedding that awed even the photographers.
The day before, I think most of us were all secretly checking weather.com to see what the forecast was for the next day having that the priority location of the wedding was outside. Forecasts predicted thunderstorms; on the day, it was perfect – not hot, not humid, but perfect.
I don’t know exactly why, but I cried during my toast to them. It was almost completely uncontrollable, tears started forming and I just went with it. Maybe it was because everything had gone well, maybe it was because my eldest sister cried at the end of her toast; regardless, my tears were tears of happiness.
Here is a part of my toast to Simon and Angela, not verbatim but something that I carefully thought about and wrote the night before:
Simon, you have been like a big brother to me, and a part of this side of the family long before today. You brighten Angela’s smile day after day through affection, and there is nothing else I can ask of you as my brother-in-law.
Angela, you make Simon whole. You should see him when you are not there, sometimes fumbling around and not knowing what exactly to do. You have been one of my two sisters that have taken care of me since my day one. In fact, the other one is Cecilia over there, getting married to Johnny in September of this year. I can’t thank you both enough and I am extremely happy for both of you.
Please raise your glasses to both Simon and Angela, who I know will be together through and through to wish them a long, happy and blessed life.
Thank you.
(Warning: If that is not what I said, then that is what I MEANT to say.
)
In other news, my eldest sister is also getting hitched in September of this year. This wedding’s happening in Chicago, Il. I’ll post another memory-sake post then too.
