Weeklies.
July 31st, 2006 | by john |What a week! Was in training most of the week and met amazing people from Chicago, Charlotte, NYC, and UK. We always went out to eat somewhere different for dinner. Partied it up friday night – let’s just say my ears were numb when we grabbed a cab home. Saturday was sort of a tourist-y day where we visited the foundation of WTC and rode the Liberty ferry in the NY harbor for close to an hour then had some great dinner. Sunday, found Macy’s by accident. It reminded me of malls in Korea. Then went atop the observation deck at Rockefellar center at night and had a breathtaking view of the city. I feel a bit guilty for having such a great time here.
As I always do, I’ve been following the news lately. What is going on over there in the Middle East? One War isn’t enough? The Lebanese Government needs to be replaced or they need to suck it up. It is obvious that the Lebanese Government fear Hezbollah yet Hezbollah still participate freely in their government. I am not understanding how Lebanon says they are an innocent bystander in this yet a fraction of their Government is fighting a war. According to Wikipedia, Hezbollah holds approximately 11% of the seats. So that means 11% of Lebanon’s Government is fighting a war and the other 89% is just crying about it. Even more ridiculous, that 11% of their Government apparently has a militia of its own. Imagine, the democratic party and the republican party having separate armed services. In such a situation, if the democratic party’s (since they are currently the minority in Congress) militia kidnapped a canadian border patrol; Canada will blame and fight the democratic party?
A Government of a nation, no matter how many different parties are affiliated with it, is a single entity. A Government needs to represent the citizens of a nation and act together. If Hezbollah wants to be a part of the Lebanese Government, they should merge their militia into the Lebanese army so that there is a centrally appropriate line of command. Any political party that goes against the wishes of the government it wants to participate in should be considered as rebels and dispelled.
Consider me ignorant, I admit not knowing too much about Hezbollah but the makeup of the Lebanese Government and Hezbollah’s participation boggles my mind.
