Referee Hackett tackles Gamecock QB Garcia.

My brother-in-law forwarded this video to me. I could not believe what I was seeing and at first was trying to find evidence of this being one of those viral videos. No, apparently, this really happened during the college football game between University of South Carolina and Louisiana State University on October 18th, 2008. How crazy does this look?

Admittedly, I think some angles make it look worse than it is. For example, the camera angle actually on the field in slow-motion does undoubtedly make it look like the referee pushed himself toward Garcia. The normal TV camera doesn’t make it look as bad. In the end, I think it’s all about the referee’s position as an umpire. According to wikipedia:

The umpire (U) stands behind the defensive line and linebackers, observing the blocks by the offensive line and defenders trying to ward off those blocks — looking for holding or illegal blocks. Prior to the snap, he counts all offensive players. … As the umpire is situated where much of the play’s initial action occurs, he is considered by many to hold the most dangerous officiating position.

So according to that definition of an umpire, it looks like Hackett is out of position but on the other hand it could have been because he thought the play was developing to his left and stepped to the right and didn’t realize that Garcia would counter the run to his side. On that same token though, this is not the first time I’ve seen a run that was originally supposed to develop to one side and instead the running back or quarterback tries to make an adhoc play of its own. Anyway, I’m a huge football fan and it’s the first time I’ve seen this type of thing happening except for in this Buffalo Wild Wing commercial.

A few months back, I made a posted a video of Cas Haley‘s first performance on America’s Got Talent from YouTube. I never followed the show although I did think Cas’s performance of Walking on the Moon was spectacularly done. While I was looking through my site to see if the upgrade had any ill-effects, I re-played Cas’s video and it made me want to look up who had won the show. I was thinking to myself “Surely, if Cas didn’t win there must have been someone else with jaw-dropping talent!” I found this Wikipedia article about America’s Got Talent (who knew it was the second season?) and saw that a guy named Terry Fator won and Cas was the runner up!

I did a second take on the wikipedia article because his primary talent was ventriloquism. I certainly had to look him up and found plenty of videos. His performances did make my jaw drop and also made me smile/laugh. I was in awe of his performances and was glad that he won. Congrats Terry! This was my favorite.

Yes, it has indeed been a while since I last posted to my own darn blog. Anyway, I saw this on Digg Videos the other day and thought that Cas deserved props for real talent. I am a strong opponent of “Reality TV Rocks!” group (which seem to be most everyone in the US and now UK) so I will add that I don’t watch this show nor promote it to others. Regardless, I hope Cas wins.

Ken Jennings is well known for his record-breaking winning streak in Jeopardy. Well, that is not the only thing he is well known for; not only is he an intelligent Jeopardy ace, he is also a very comedic Jeopardy ace. I think he should have been given credit for his answer. Take a look at the definition of his answer at Dictionary.com and UrbanDictionary.com; doesn’t the answer seem right to you?

Hilarious Tech TV Blooper.

I know I haven’t posted a funny video in a while so I got a great and absolutely hilarious clip of a live Tech TV blooper. I am not sure if the man was shaking because he was old or really nervous but uh … he said it was one of a kind and it was one of a kind no longer. I know once you watch this the first time, you’ll re-watch it… when you do, look at the host’s facial expression right when it happens. Hahah!
