I finally got around to upgrading to the latest version of WordPress (2.3.1) from 2.0.6. It was definitely a long overdue upgrade and I see great improvements to the administrative UI and also found a few useful plugins. I also changed the wordpress theme to this simple design that I found by googling from themes; it is named Black & White and you can download it directly from Blog Oh! Blog.

On here, I am a casual yet careful blogger. Some may even accuse me of being a liar by omission for this blog because I choose my words and diction delicately as possible when I type. There isn't just one reason; there are hundreds of small and big reasons. One of them that I freely admit is my personal loathing of drama and controversy. Another I admit (cautiously) is my dislike of attention by a group of people.

Agreeably, my dislike of attention is ironic seeing as how public this is but my response to that is that I am not blogging for you or anyone else specifically; I am blogging for myself. The most fun I have about this is when I read my own writing from years ago; it's like digging through and finding home videos and pictures taken of you when you were growing up, it's a personal goldmine. I also tend to remain very vague and include things that totally do not make any sense (no, the 3.14 there does not indicate GPA) to anyone but myself and it brings fond memories back and I'm chuckling at it right now as I type this. I also use strange metaphorical stories to try to explain what I may be going through. Yes, I agree it's childish yet it's because I don't like being open with anyone that I do not think genuinely cares.

So… I write a lot of posts that I do not 'publish' and therefore are invisible to prevent what I mentioned in the first paragraph. I decided to substitute all the specific information (while maintaining the integrity of my thoughts and real-life aspect of each entry) and post them at a separate site and blog. It won't be impossible to identify the other blog but highly improbable. If you find it, don't tell me. I will be more comfortable not knowing you know.

All aside from the fact that the title of this post is as geeky as it can get, as you could tell from the lack of updates, this site is going on an indefinite hiatus. Aside the job I am excited to start, I am currently working on a personal project which I have deferred for about… six years. It’s about time I start putting the billions of ideas I have put down on paper within the past six years into something tangible and concrete. I will be keeping a completely separate (and private) weblog regarding the progress of my project which hopefully I can merge into this to make my personal blog seamlessly in the future once I either run out of time or complete the project entirely.

E-mail and/or AIM me.

My server was migrated from The Planet datacenter into a Savvis data center in Dallas on 7/28.

I didn’t have too much time after the server was back up with its new IP addresses yesterday morning nor afternoon nor evening so I was able to make the proper config changes to get all my sites back up on this server at around 2AM this morning.

Obviously, if I was hosting something more uptime-dependent, then I probably would’ve taken the time to get it back up sooner but I had more important matters (like studying for a final exam) that I had to prioritize.

Since it’s been a while since I made any changes to the site, I decided to take some time to do that:

Upgraded WordPress to 1.5.1.3.

Category list has now been semi-organized and ordered.

Added ‘Now Playing’ sidebar box which updates everytime a new track is selected on Winamp; required me to hack the crap out of an existing script. (geek-tacular!)

Added a devblog which I will be using to keep track of my development projects.

Added the Georgia Tech Campus photo gallery.

If you need to get in touch with me, you know how. If you have no way of contacting me, then it’s a pretty obvious reason that you don’t need to contact me.

If you are seeing this message, that means that this site has successfully transferred over from the eagle server on the West coast to the spring server on the east coast.

Why?
Performance- Eagle was a Sub-1GHz Celeron server with about a gig of ram that has been running for couple of years steadily for the past couple of years. Lately, I realize there were some slow downs and problems of performance reliability. The server was rock-stable but for what I needed to do, it wasn’t exactly the best server. The Spring server is a 1.5GHz Pentium 4 with 512MB of ram. It is comparable to Eagle but eagle had ALOT of sites being hosted on it while… spring had just a couple. I think I can host another couple hundred sites on Spring without seeing that much of a slowdown.

<quote by="server">root@spring [~]# uptime
8:12pm up 28 days, 12:47, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.03, 0.05</quote>

As you can see, the stability of this server is unquestionable Actually, I think the last time I rebooted the server was because I had to do a kernel upgrade on it.

… if you want to continue reading about the g33ksp34k, click the link below this otherwise, just ignore the rest.

Network- As I am on the east coast, it makes more sense for me to have access to a server on the east coast. The network that Spring is on has been solid for the past 6 months or so although lately there seems to be an increase in distributed denial of service attacks which has been the cause of randomly high latency. But in any event, this is relatively normal for networks. My ping to spring is steady at 22ms while my ping to eagle averages to about 80ms.

Spring is my own server – no one else has control over this server except me and the guys that I work for I will be using this server as a Level 2 development server while I use my laptop running RedHat9 as Level 1. I can develop on the laptop while doing full production tests and beta tests on Spring. Again, if you are looking for hosting – contact me and I’ll see what I can do.

Remeber that spring is running RH7.3- so if you want to make a site using .NET/ASP or anything like that, don’t even ask – I don’t have money to buy a license to enable server side ASP or .NET development tools… all this being beside the point of this server being a linux server
